Botswana

Peaceful, prosperous and with nearly 40% of the country set aside as protected conservation areas, Botswana is justly considered one of the top destinations in Africa.

The miraculous Okavango Delta, fed by crystal pure waters from the Angolan Highlands, floods once a year, spreading fingers of water through a desert wonderland, resulting in teeming herds of game and unique water and land based game viewing opportunities. The Chobe National Park, home to 45 000 elephant is easily combined with Victoria Falls in Zambia, and the Tuli Block on the South African border offers dramatic landscapes together with big game.

The Delta, which also comprises areas such as Chief's Island and Moremi Game Reserve, is only accessed by air. The main access point is a small town called Maun which is serviced daily from Johannesburg by Air Botswana. From here light aircraft take clients into the camps in the Delta. It is popular to combine camps : packages normally consist of 2 or 3 nights in one camp combined with 2 or 3 nights in another camp, connected by short plane hops between camps and in and out of Maun, or ending at Kasane, which is the main access point to Chobe and Victoria Falls. All rates in Botswana include accommodation, all meals, all game activities and in the majority of cases, local drinks. Some camps in the Delta area specialize in land based activities (so game excursions are done in open vehicles), some specialize in water based activities (done in flat local boats called Mokoros) and some are combination camps offering both land and water. In a combination of camps we will always try to offer a mix of activities.

Chobe, is in the far north eastern corner, near a confluence where Botswana, Zambia, Namibia and Zimbabwe meet. It is very easily accessed by road from Livingstone and Victoria Falls (45 minute road transfer) making it an ideal combination with Victoria Falls.

Chobe National Park is vast and home to 45 000 elephant. Many of the lodges are centred around the Chobe River, allowing them to offer boat excursions as well as game drives in the reserve. The small town of Kasane is found here with a local airport and this is serviced by the same small charter hop flights in and out of the Okavango Delta that service Maun. It is possible to choose a package which starts in Maun, does the camps in the Delta and drops off at Kasane to combine Chobe and the Falls.

Other areas in Botswana include the Tuli block which is the far south and borders South Africa and also Savute which is between Chobe and the Delta.
